The laboratories are designed as moments of experimentation, where it is possible to learn or improve specific processing techniques. They are aimed at enriching and perfecting the professional and artistic skills of the participants, who can experiment with new expressive and practical techniques using the stone material and the equipment provided.

The Arkad Foundation operates in a building owned by Artco Srl (see Artco - Spaces), an architectural complex that is divided into four groups of buildings, with two open spaces at the ends: a yard with cranes for handling marbles on one side and a garden on the other. The four construction groups include:

-The large workshop, in the central part of the building, destined for artistic work of monumental sculptures.
-
Studies, beside the laboratory dedicated to the realization of small works.
-
Three apartments hosting artists living-work at the Arkad Foundation.
-
Above the studios three bedrooms and living room.
-
The offices hosting the administration of Artco and the Arkad Foundation.
-
The design studies of Cynthia Sah and Nicolas Bertoux.
-
The meeting room, houses a collection of books, specialized magazines and art catalogs.
-

PAGINA IN COSTRUZIONE / WORK IN PROGRESS

The ARKAD Foundation includes among its activities the creation and development of cultural exchanges with other national and international artistic realities.

SERAVEZZA-HUALIEN SCULPTURAL EXCHANGE

Since 2003, the Foundation has worked for the development of a cultural exchange between the cities of Hualien in Taiwan and Seravezza. The city of Hualien, in Taiwan, is a seaside resort famous for the extraction and processing of marble, has about 150,000 inhabitants and has a natural park famous for its Taroko river. The city hosts economic activities such as quarries, industries and handicrafts in the stone industry, as well as a large community of artists, mainly sculptors, who set it up to develop privileged cultural relations with Seravezza.

With the aim of establishing the twinning between the two cities, a cultural exchange began between Seravezza and Hualien, promoted in synergy between the ARKAD Foundation and the Hualien City Cultural Center: the project foresees a series of artistic-cultural events involving the communities of artists and the economic realities of both geographical areas.

Arkad's future projects include the implementation of a Permanent Cultural Exchange between the cities of Seravezza and Hualien.

The ARKAD Foundation has included among its activities the promotion and organization of the following Symposia:

BOARDING FOR TAIWAN
September 2003 - Hualien

The Hualien International Monumental Sculpture Symposium

In 2003 a symposium was organized  between the Arkad and Hualien Foundation, a city in Taiwan famous for the extraction and processing of marble. It was attended by 5 Versilia artists and 5 Taiwanese artists. The sculptors created their works in monumental marble dimensions.

The following Versilian artists participated in the sculpture symposium: David Campbell (USA), Paul Bourieau (France), Jaya Schuerch (USA), Tobel (Germany), Bernard Verhaeghe (Belgium).

ITINERARIES IN THE SCULPTURE
July 2006 - Studio Artco Seravezza (LU)

The Itineraries in Sculpture Symposium was organized by the Municipality of Seravezza in 2006 as part of the "Cantiere d'arte: Marmo e Arte Contemporanea" project. The aim of this project was to enhance the culture of marble and the tradition and skills of which Versilia's artisan studios and laboratories are rich. Five young artists have been invited to work in some of the most important sculpture studios to create a work in marble, in close contact with the artisans and with the productive reality of this precious material.

The ARKAD Foundation hosted the sculptor Carolina Shell at the laboratory.

Artists involved: Giovanni Balderi, Marco Biagini, Sara Bonuccelli, Vittorio Cavallini, Carolina Shell.
Studies involved: ARTCO Studio, Henraux, Giorgio Angeli Sculpture Studio, Enzo Pasquini Art Studio.
Entities involved: Municipality of Seravezza, Tuscany Region with the Regional Network for Contemporary Art TRA ART, Province of Lucca, Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca Foundation, Henraux.

On the occasion of the exhibitions, the Arkad Foundation organizes collateral events such as concerts, theatrical performances and performances, to promote the interaction between the different forms of art.
